7 Ways To Ensure A Good Work/Life Balance

7 Ways To Ensure A Good Work/Life Balance

Many of us define ourselves through our careers, but it’s essential to remember that work is only one part of our lives.  Harmony has to be achieved between your professional and private life – if this isn’t the case, you can expect one or both to be affected detrimentally.

Here are a few easy steps you can take to make sure all aspects of your life are on a healthy equilibrium:

1. Stay Social

Self-employment can be lonely at times, which makes social occasions a great way to boost morale.  Make an effort to meet up at least once a month with friends and associates; they will give you a fresh perspective and an opportunity to bounce ideas around.

2. Do Nothing Now And Then

Your days off will be charged with expectation and, perhaps, the pressure to do something amazing or practical.  Never feel guilty about recharging in your pyjamas for a full day if you need it – rest and recovery time is essential in a fast-paced career.

 3. Detox From Digital

We’re constantly nagged by the guilt of an un-checked inbox, or switching off a phone that could buzz at any time.  Don’t be afraid to extricate yourself from technology after a cut-off point in the day.  Even hungry entrepreneurs should take some down-time from being constantly connected to their business.

4. Don’t Bottle Anything Up

Team meetings and performance reviews exist for a reason – to air any issues and feedback in as direct a manner as possible.  Since you may have a limited number of professionals to consult, unless you have a business coach or mentor, don’t be afraid to spill the beans to friends and family.  The act of getting something off your chest can be helpful all by itself.

5. Set Long-Term Goals

Goals give us direction and purpose, so consider where you want to be and set goals to help you get there.  This could be anything from the overhaul of your website to the holiday of your dreams.  If you don’t like how a facet of your venture is panning out, don’t worry – there’s always light at the end of the tunnel, if you put it there.

6. Mix Up Your Work Schedule

Staying in the same place – whether you’re renting office space or working from home – can make the sanest person go a little loopy.  If you can, take your tasks to fresh scenery: coffee shops, train journeys, and public libraries are all great for reinvigorating your outlook.

7. Do Something Unexpected

There might be a networking event you’ve heard about, or a new outfit that’s caught your eye in a shop window.  Surprise yourself by doing something different that takes you out of your comfort zone; who knows, you might just find your new favourite thing.

Ignorance isn’t bliss at all when your work/life balance is concerned.  If you don’t identify what’s making you tired or stressed, chances are it’ll overtake you, and put some lines under your eyes that needn’t be there.

Variety is the spice of life, and following these tips will get you back on track to happiness in no time!  If you think business coaching could be part of that solution, don’t hesitate to get in touch.
